The Centre for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research is structured into three interrelated research areas that include

Cardiovascular diseases remain a major cause of mortality worldwide and represent several disorders that result in failure of the heart. This area of research includes a number of major clinical problems from heart failure to peripheral arterial disease.
Diabetes and metabolic health
Metabolic syndrome comprises a number of disorders that together increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and associated diabetes. Our main research thrust is insulin resistance and the interface between polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), impaired glucose tolerance and type 2 diabetes, and their relationship to metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular risk factors.
Haemostasis, Thrombosis & Inflammation
Arterial thrombosis plays a key role in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease. Research projects in this are focussed on the regulation of platelet function and their contribution to a both thrombosis and a number of inflammatory states.
