About us

 

The Centre for Education Development is responsible for:

  • The development of a strong educational team which supports the dissemination of ideas, innovation and evidence in education across HYMS Centre’s and NHS partners.
  • A contribution to the development of scholarship in education within HYMS; scholarship might include academic reviewing, writing, external examining, external and internal educational responsibilities, national or international exchanges and contribution to developing expertise.
  • The support for NIHR Academic Clinical Fellows, other Academic Clinical Fellowships, Doctoral students and other Education related postgraduate and intercalated students and their projects.
  • The dissemination of evidence into the HYMS educational curriculum, and encouragement of innovation, creativity and excellence within the MBBS curriculum and other programmes.
  • High quality evaluation of HYMS educational programmes to help quality improvement; going beyond student feedback and external review to explore which educational approaches make an impact onto students’ learning and their acquisition of ideas, knowledge and professional skills.
  • The development and dissemination of high quality educational research within defined educational areas consistent with HYMS strategy and priorities, with this research supported by external funding and in future returnable within the Research Excellence Framework. 

Future strategy

  • We will work with University, NHS national and international partners to help develop and introduce best practice in medical education. e.g. University education departments in Hull & York; ASME; the Aspire-to-Excellence Project; GMC; Health Education Yorkshire and the Humber Higher Education Academy; MSC-AA; international partners e.g. Aaarhus, Denmark.
  • We will support the MBBS curriculum review with evaluation, research and expert input to ensure curriculum changes are informed and evidence based.
  • We will support a culture of ongoing critical but constructive review of the MBBS and other educational programmes to support high quality international standard student experiences.
  • Offer encouragement and expertise for appropriate innovation and creativity within the HYMS educational programmes for the benefit of our students and the wider community.
  • Develop and nurture the educational scholarship of staff involved with education at HYMS, both internally and within the NHS to create a strong academic base to help support, inform, evaluate and improve our educational programmes.
